A Night as a Dreamgirl!

Last night was a show queen's dream. Along with an audience of hundreds of other like-minded, mostly gay men, I had a blast at Outfest's Dreamgirls sing-along at Hollywood's outdoor Ford Amphitheatre. We belted out every Jennifer Hudson, Beyoncé, Anika Noni Rose, Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy number. We talked back to the screen, shouted some obscenities (all in good fun, of course!) and rose from our seats to do our best Diana Ross moves. My moviegoing pal Tom even coaxed the crowd to lift their cell phones into the air and sway along to Hudson's performance of the heart-wrenching "Family." Another moviegoer brought along a red-laser pointer to ding Foxx in the head when his character, Curtis Taylor Jr., showed his mean side. The surprise for the evening was Loretta Devine, who played the original Lorrell Robinson when Dreamgirls debuted more than 25 years ago. Devine, who was introduced by the movie's director, Bill Condon, and producers Larry Mark and Jonathan King, performed "Ain't No Party," a song from the stage show that, sadly, didn't make it into the flick. Devine, of course, received a standing ovation. 'E'
