Steve Martin Marries Girlfriend Stringfield in Surprise Ceremony

Steve Martin has married his longtime girlfriend Anne Stringfield. The approximately 75 guests who were invited to Steve Martin’s home on Saturday -— among them Tom Hanks, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Carl Reiner, and the magician Ricky Jay -— thought they would only be attending a party. It turned out, however, that the occasion was a wedding: Martin, 61, married his longtime girlfriend Anne Stringfield, 35, a writer and former staffer for The New Yorker. The ceremony was presided over by Bob Kerrey, the former Nebraska senator and 1992 Democratic presidential candidate, who is reportedly a friend of Martin’s. Lorne Michaels, creator of “Saturday Night Live”, which Martin has hosted more often than anyone else in the show’s history, was best man. Martin was previously married, from 1986 to 1994, to the actress Victoria Tennant; the marriage ended in divorce. At Saturday’s ceremony, Martin was wearing his Inspector Clouseau mustache because he will soon play that role in the upcoming sequel to the 2006 The Pink Panther.
