Radcliffe wins British Oscar

Daniel Radcliffe has been named Best Actor at the inaugural National Movie Awards — billed as ‘Britain’s answer to the Oscars’.The Harry Potter star picked up the gong on Friday night at the glitzy ceremony after beating off competition from James Bond star Daniel Craig and Pirates Of The Caribbean favourite Johnny Depp.It was good news for his co-star Emma Watson too, she was named Best Female ahead of Keira Knightley and Dami Judi Dench, whilst Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix won Best Family Film.Meanwhile, Radcliffe is determined to shed his cute boy wizard image once and for all. Not content with appearing nude on stage as a troubled stable-boy in Equus, he’s now auditioning to play a homosexual spy.The actor, who is currently filming the latest Harry Potter movie, wants to play Cambridge scholar Guy Burgess, who as a 1930s boarding school boy fell in love with his friend.“I’d never play a gay character just for the sake of it,” the 18-year-old told Daily Star, “But if the script was good and it was a good character, it wouldn’t bother me. Playing characters exploring their sexuality is a challenge.”
